  3.      This file contains a synopsis of all changes in the CTS Serial Port
  4.      Utilities up to and including this release.

  11.      PortMaster - a User Interface for the rest of the Serial Port
  12.      Utilities (SPU). PortMaster provides easy-to-use menus for
  13.      PortInfo, ResetModem, ResetCom, HangUp and the port settings.
  14.      In addition, PortMaster displays the command required to do
  15.      the same operation from the DOS prompt so you can add the
  16.      command to batch files as needed.
  17.      
  18.      PortInfo operation in a Windows DOS box has been improved to
  19.      allow better operation in various Windows environments.
  20.      
  21.      Detects when a serial port is using a fast clock to provide 
  22.      data rates above 115,200 bps. PortInfo detects x2, x4 and x8
  23.      clock multipliers and reports in a WARNING message and on the
  24.      summary screen.
  25.      
  26.      Improved RockWell RPI (TM) modem detection - detects both
  27.      versions of RPI modems. Registered versions also detect if
  28.      the correct driver is installed for Windows to use the modem
  29.      properly as part of the SYSTEM.INI analysis.

  31.      Several internal improvements provide increased accuracy and
  32.      reliability.

  91.      * Added the BIOS_FIX utility. BIOS_FIX ensures correct installation and
  92.        initialization of the serial ports when run from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  93.        The registered version verifies the Windows serial port setup as well.
  94.  
  95.      * Added the ResetMod(em) utility. ResetMod(em) performs a complete reset
  96.        of a modem - doing everything possible (via software) to obtain or
  97.        regain control of a modem. Very handy for use with internal modems when
  98.        a power-off is the only other answer. An optional setup string can be
  99.        added to ResetMod(em) if a specific modem setup is required.
  100.  
  101.      * Added the HangUp utility. HangUp will do everything possible to force
  102.        the modem to hang up the phone line. Very helpful to run after programs
  103.        that do not properly hang up the modem.
  104.  
  105.      * Added support for two new UART types to PortInfo: the 16650 from
  106.        StarTech and the 16750 from Texas Instruments. These are
  107.        identified as the "ST-650" and "TI-750" on the PortInfo summary
  108.        screen respectively. Buffer-Trigger levels are also properly reported
  109.        for the receive buffer.

  111.      * Added new conflict tests:
  112.        - Specific test for a Mouse/Modem conflicts;
  113.        - A Long Test option for finding difficult to detect conflicts.
  114.  
  115.      * Added a new message type: "For Your Information". This message
  116.        type will replace Warning messages, when appropriate (for
  117.        example, when a Com4 port cannot be used in a computer).

  119.      * PortInfo will perform a complete analysis of the serial port
  120.        configuration and verify that Windows is set up correctly. Specific
  121.        changes, if needed are reported. (Registered Versions)

  123.      * A more complete interrupt scan. PortInfo detects the IRQs in CONSTANT
  124.        use by devices that will definitely conflict with communications. These
  125.        are listed and then avoided by PortInfo unless run with the /NoScan
  126.        option.

  128.      * A modem identification report that displays the modem identification
  129.        command results (registered versions).

  131.      * Introducing OEM versions of PortInfo - please see OEM.TXT or contact

  264.      * Some network cards were interferred with by the PortInfo
  265.        test resulting in a lockup after PortInfo completed running.
  266.        Two changes in PortInfo address this problem:
  267.  
  268.        1) There is a new command line option "/XIi" that you can use if
  269.        you know which IRQ your network uses. This command line option
  270.        forces PortInfo to eXclude Irq "i" from the test. For example, if
  271.        your network card is on IRQ 5, then add "/XI5" to the command
  272.        line. Use of this command completely resolves the problem.
  273.  
  274.        2) PortInfo has also been changed to avoid the lockup condition
  275.        if you don't specify the "/XIi" command option. Starting with
  276.        version 1.3, PortInfo no longer causes a lockup, but you may lose
  277.        your network connection. You canlog out and then back in to the
  278.        network to re-establish your connection.
  279.  
  280.      * Under some circumstances, PortInfo would repeat message
  281.        PI-3000 (a port address conflict message) when detecting two
  282.        serial ports installed at the same address. Fixed!

  302.      * "DOS_COM /n /Aaaa" failed to install the port "n" at address "aaa"
  303.        in the BIOS data area. Fixed.

  305.      * The DOS_FMT command line was not parsed properly if the format was
  306.        specified before the port ("DOS_FMT /n /Ffff" works,
  307.        "DOS_FMT /Ffff /n" does not). Fixed.

  312.      * PortInfo automatically detects and tests any ports listed
  313.        in the BIOS data area when no CTSCOMn environment variables are
  314.        set for the ports.
  315.  
  316.      * The "Emulated UART" note was expanded to cover original 8250B UARTs
  317.        installed in fast computers. This UART is too slow for the faster
  318.        computer bus, and is occasionally detected by PortInfo as an
  319.        "Emulated UART".
  320.  
  321.      * Removed "/Iii" from a startup error message. "/Iii" is not used by
  322.        any current utilities.
  323.  
  324.      * The control utilities BUFFER, COM_BPS, COM_FMT, DTR, IRQ, RESETCOM
  325.        and RTS will first attempt to use the standard and CTSCOMn port
  326.        assignments. If these fail, then they will check the BIOS data area
  327.        for a possible alternate serial ports installed by DOS_COM or
  328.        other BIOS data area update programs.
